2010 Silver Spurs Rodeo

February 17th, 2010

Most people who visit Kissimmee are more than a bit surprised to find that cattle ranches, rodeos and cowboys have played such a big part in the area’s culture.  But it’s true!  All of these were around long before Mr. Walt Disney came to town and changed Central Florida forever.

Friday, February 19th – Sunday, February 21st is the 124th Silver Spurs Rodeo.  Located just 10 miles/20 minutes from the Seralago Hotel & Suites, the Silver Spurs Rodeo is an Osceola County tradition since 1944.  Founded by the Silver Spurs Riding Club to promote good horsemanship and good fellowship in Osceola County.  It has grown to one of the most successful rodeos in the country, the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi and is ranked annually among the top 50 events sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

Held at the state-of-the-art, indoor Silver Spurs Arena, the rodeo features a variety of exciting events.  Dust off your Stetson and watch such events as Bareback Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping and even Mutton Bustin’ for the kids.

Admission is just $15, kids 10 & under are free.

Showtimes:

Friday, 7:30pm – Friday is Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night!  Proceeds benefit Osceola Cancer Center.  Wear pink to show your support.

“This place is great, especially if you have kids”… TripAdvisor Review

February 16th, 2010

A recent reviewer on TripAdvisor had this to say about the Seralago Hotel & Suites…

My wife had to go out of town for 10 days and I really wanted something special for my 2 children ( 7 and 9) on a weekend visit to Orlando from Fort Lauderdale. (Without paying a fortune at a Disney Resort! After all, very little time is spent in the Hotel.) I found Seralago’s website and their kids suites looked nice. Then I read a few very negative reviews. I started thinking that maybe the good reviews came from “unsavory” individuals who lived in a tent or something. I really was convinced to stay away but decided to take a chance. What a surprise! My king size bed was very clean and comfortable, the entire place was very clean. My children never stayed in a place that had their own kid themed room - they chose the Igloo. Bunk beds and a single bed; reading lights; a desk their own TV with xbox. Bring your own games or rent for 4 bucks each. A real cozy fort with portal type windows . They were thrilled. It was very cold and the swimming pool was steaming hot and very clean. Front desk was very friendly. Gameroom was fun but play for fun, not for ticket prizes. Breakfast Buffet was really nice. Mine 7 dollars and the kids free. I cant vouch for the other rooms in the hotel but ours was great. I paid around 70 dollars and I will definitly go back.

Tim
ps: Old town is walking distance and was a lot of fun.
I’m a business man and stay at a a lot of 4 and 5 star Hotels - this is not one. But the complainers, I think, were either “snooty” or maybe:did they get a bad room? Everything looked great to me.

Best Family Hotel I Have Seen…
This is a wonderful hotel we have been coming to fl. 3/5 times a year. Only place we will stay at. It’s a family place my kids love it i will tell you a little story . 10 years ago we decided not to go to the hotel but to rent a house the kids were against it because they love the hotel so much anyway we got to the house at approximately 7:00 PM of course in the house we had everything that kids did not speak to me or their mother we ask them to go in the pool they said no that they want to go back to the hotel lol to make the story short 11:30 PM that night we ended up packing and going back to the hotel and the kids love it. The staff is wonderful that General Manager is one of the kind he will make you feel at home excellent excellent person every time were there he stops by to say hello or we stop by to say hello. I recommend this hotel to anyone that has kids and is looking for a good safe time. All the parks are very close by all the stores are very close, flea markets anything you want. Next door is old town you and the kids will love it it’s a 5 minute walk. Very very highly recommended from someone that’s been there since 1989. To the General Manager and staff for making us feel at home.

Excellent Service and Facilities

We went to the Seralago Hotel this past April 2009. I didn’t know what to expect for the price. I was so amazed. The Seralago is one of the best family hotels that 192 road has. It is big, spacious, and filled with many amenities. I loved the pizzeria, general store, and main pool facilities. The rooms were spacious, simple but very clean. I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel and can’t wait to go back. Great, great service! They always left the rooms cleans and with extra towels. Totally recommend this hotel.

Review from a member of DISboards.com

January 21st, 2010

We stayed here one night in December before we could get into our villa. I thought it was a great place. The room we had was a one bedroom suite- separate bedroom with a door- very large room- had 2 queen beds in it and a small table and chairs- in the living room area there was a sofa bed and a murphy bed which the kids thought was GREAT- then just off the living area was a kitchen area separated by the counter that had bar stools- microwave, sink with and bar sized fridge, coffee maker- no oven/toaster/burners/dishes etc. The pools were huge and really nice as was the hot tubs by them. They had a room all decorated for Christmas you could look into and see Santa sleeping in there. We paid $70 for one night-auto club rate booked online at the Seralago site. It is hard to find hotels that will accomodate larger families and this one was perfect. It was a good place to stay to go for a walk around as it is so large- check out the games room- walk over to Old Town etc.

Here’s what one of our guests had to say…

January 15th, 2010

My husband, granddaughter and myself stayed there in 2005. We did not know, until we received his email, the history of the hotel. We had a wonderful time at your facility and have recommended it to everyone that tells us they are going to be staying in the Orlando area. When we stayed there the first thing that was pleasurably noticeable was that every, and I mean every, employee was courteous and helpful…smiling all the time! This in itself should be enough to warrant a repeat visit, however as it became clear further into our stay, the fact that you have multiple pools and hot tubs, that you are so close but far enough from the “madding crowd”, that there are so many dining facilities of various price and cuisine…well I could go on and on but to this day we still comment on what a wonderful time we had on that visit and we owe it all to your establishment.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ANNIVERSARY AND WE DEARLY HOPE YOU WILL HAVE MANY MORE!!!

Disney Monorail Fun

January 12th, 2010

Here’s a little known tid-bit… Did you know that you can ride up front with the monorail driver? All you do is ask the cast member at the gate where you wait to catch the monorail. They only allow up to 4 people to join them in the front car. Usually the drivers are very friendly and will give kids a special certificate. Sometimes they have special trading cards to give out about the different types of transportation available at Walt Disney World. It has interesting facts and statistics. Enjoy the ride! — I’ve been told that for safety reasons, Disney has discontinued this.

A Recent Traveler from Waukesha, Wisconsin had this to say:

January 11th, 2010

“Our family have been returning to stay at this hotel for 18 years everytime we go to Disney the kids and now grandkids ask to stay in one of the 2 room suites in the 2nd building. They are nice because you are poolside and there is plenty of room for a family and its very close to everything. Try it and you are sure to be back.”

We Love the Seralago — TripAdvisor Review

December 22nd, 2009

I first stayed at the Seralago in 1986 when it was the Holiday Inn Main Gate East on our very first trip to Disneyworld. At the time I took my two children who were 3 and 5 years old. Since that time I have stayed at least 9 times. This last year, in 2008, I took all three of my children, the youngest at age 14 and my two grandchildren. It was a wonderful experience for my children to return to the site of so many happy memories with their own children. We have stayed in the children’s suites with the bunk beds and a few times in a family suite. My vacation photo albums include many pictures from all of our stays and each time the caring staff and wonderful amenities at the Seralago have added to the magic of our trip.
I never have to rent a car, as Seralago has the shuttle to Disneyworld. Though in recent years the times of the shuttle are farther in between, it still saves so much money not having to rent a car.
Old Town is right next door, and the kids love it there. It’s like a 1950’s recreated small town village with shops, classic cars, and carnival rides. This year my son, who is now 26 (5 years old the first time we stayed) finally got to ride the “slingshot” type ride at Old Town! And my youngest, at 13, her 5th stay at Seralago, won a ticket jackpot at an Old Town arcade and brought home a suitcase full of souvenirs from her ticket purchases.
The hotel has aged, no doubt, but it’s always clean and well maintained, and only one time did we have a problem with a broken toilet that was fixed almost immediately.
The staff is very caring and courteous and always happy to help. The beds are typical hotel beds, but the pillows are rather fluffy and comfy. Fridge, Microwave, and Coffee Maker always work and help save money because we buy groceries at the grocery store about 2 blocks up from the hotel and eat what we can in our room. We also keep milk, juice, fruit, etc, in the fridge. And of course, coffee creamer! There are several businesses that deliver to the hotel so we have had pizza and wings delivered to the room. There are fliers for those businesses right in the room.
The kids love the pools and the kiddy pool and the playground. This last year the adults got to use the hot tub and outdoor bar after a long day of walking and kid wrangling at the parks! The prices at the bar were reasonable and we all enjoyed a relaxing evening, with the hot tub being right outside our suite, as was the pool. There is a volleyball court and a tennis court and basketball area too. Plenty of things to do on those days when you just want to hang out in the sunshine and enjoy life!
In 2010 we are staying again in a family suite, this time with my oldest son, his girlfriend, my youngest daughter (14) and her best friend, my granddaughter (5), and my good friend with her two children (9) an (5). $72 per night. There are two double/queen beds in the bedroom, a pull down Murphy bed, a pull out sleeper sofa, and a cot we arranged with the front desk. We will all be comfy. I am excited to help my friend and her children start their own tradition of staying at the Seralago when they visit Disney. It’s so much cheaper than Disney Hotels, usually between $40 (room) and $80 (suite) a night. And with the little convenience store in the lobby and a diner style restaurant, both with reasonable prices for a tourist area, we don’t have to travel for conveniences.
A grocery store, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken and a bunch of other places are just next door, too.
FYI In 2006 I got a package thru AAA to stay at Disney at Pop Century. The rooms were twice the price with no coffee maker, fridge, or microwave that Seralago has, and the bus ride to the parks was maybe 10 minutes shorter. It was magical to stay on Disney property, but for the budget conscious, as I have to be, it was not worth the money when Seralago has so much to offer for such a small price.
If you aren’t expecting five star rooms with gourmet cuisine, then consider the Seralago, it’s so family friendly, your children can run around and have a great time, you can relax, and it won’t bust your budget!
There are also kids activities posted in the lobby, Disney and other movies at night in the mini-theatre, etc. And there is DVD rental in the lobby for about $3 and a DVD player in the room.
It’s easy to plan your park trips based on the shuttle schedule and the pickup and drop off is right at Magic Kingdom gate. From there you can use Disney transportation to go anywhere you need to go in Disney. After a long day at the park it’s nice to sit back on the comfy bus seat and relax on the ride back to the Seralago, about 20-30 minutes.
This year we are also going to Universal Studios and the hotel will arrange a pick up and drop off for us. (At our expense.)
Last year my granddaughter Katie actually found a coconut outside our suite under one of the palm trees and it was the highlight of her stay. A few years ago my oldest daughter stumbled upon an armadillo outside our room which made a nice picture opportunity!
There is a coin laundry room so we are able to pack light by doing laundry mid-stay, and one year it served its purpose when one of the little ones had too much cotton candy and too many sweets and had a ’stomach’ problem all over her pajamas and favorite blanket from home.
I would not think of staying anywhere else when we go to Disney, which we do just about every year now. (Usually leaving behind six feet of snow in Syracuse, NY) It’s so exciting and magical to see the colorful Seralago sign when we pull up! When we arrive it always feels like our home away from home!
